As Founder and CEO of the leading edge ION Network, Dave Behar leads the business, marketing and visual development of the world’s largest vertical Internet, Mobile and Television Network, along with a focused, sports specific channel network, the ION Sports Network (featuring over 150 different sports), the ION Kids, ION Music, ION Faith, ION Family Networks and the ION Local Network, serving thousands of communities worldwide.
ION’s Studios now successfully and efficiently broadcasts local news, sports and thousands of lifestyle stories and topics across its own network of multi-platform channels, mobile, and syndication of shows to thousands of affiliates, available worldwide and in all 25,000+ U.S. and Canadian cities.
An early pioneer and champion of leading edge technology, new / social media, e-commerce and high-conversion “social commerce”, Dave routinely enjoys spreading the gospel about brand and business development, original programming (television, Internet and mobile), personalization, personal channels and the convergence of television and Internet – which led to the early formation of ION and its well-known call letters and personality.
Dave even Executive Produces and gets in front of the camera every once in a while…
Prior to founding ION, Dave founded and led Avenue I, a profitable brand, sports, nutrition and technology consultancy, including PAC-10 (now PAC-12), Big West, WCC, adidas, Powerbar, 24 Hour Fitness, Molten, Chrysler, 1996 Atlanta Centennial Olympic Games, other major events and iBrands, focused sports brands that preceded the ION Network, and now sells successfully in focused retailers nationwide.
At Avenue I and its predecessor Behar Network, Dave designed the famous PAC-10 Conference identity / brand, and created the PAC-10’s successful Licensing and Media Promotion practice from scratch, which led to the formation of PAC-10 Properties, now operated by Fox Sports. The PAC-10 is the country’s winningest Athletic Conference in the NCAA and enjoys some of the largest television contracts in sports today.
HotMail also benefited from Dave at its early / founding / brand development stage, as he built many of the “killer apps” business development, revenue, subscription models and marketing plans that enabled early funding and financial success helping lead to the eventual historic $400 million dollar acquisition by Microsoft.
As a competitive athlete and business developer, Action Sports is in his DNA. Fresh out of San Diego State University, Dave founded, led and then later sold the wildly successful volleyball sportswear and product brand and pioneer I DIG, which he grew to International distribution. He invented the category of beach volleyball footwear and revolutionized the optic beach volleyball market leading to major endorsements and retail sales leadership.
Dave also created the comprehensive brand development and marketing profile for McDavid, the leader in Sports Medicine and Protective Apparel, including HexPad Technology – effectively creating a new $100+ million category that quickly became “standard issue” for most athletes in the NBA, NFL, MLB, NHL, impact sports in the NCAA, professional and youth Lacrosse, Soccer, Rugby, and other sports worldwide – combined with unmistakable retail placement and demand. Dave’s signing and development of key endorsement relationships with signature events and NBA’s Dwyane Wade helped trigger additional explosive growth.
For client Victory, Dave created the revolutionary “new” category “Performance Surf Footwear”, appropriately named “Vooties”, combining warmth, traction, protection and performance attributes for surfers and other water sports athletes worldwide.
In his spare time, Dave enjoys spending quality time with his awesome wife and kids, surfing and playing multiple sports, leading young entrepreneurs, designing homes, testing his culinary skills on friends, and, well leaving us with a few unique quotations.
